Hey there, people. I am not a newcomer to these forums, but so far I have been mostly lurking and checking out people's soundclouds. Today, however, I would like to ask for an advice.
Over the past five years, I have been toying with the Fruity Loops Studio in my spare time. So far I produced about eighty tracks of various genres and I am quite happy with some of these as are the 200-odd followers I have accumulated on soundcloud and youtube.
I am not the second coming of music god, but I can write catchy melodies and compose them into larger structures just fine. I am, however, laughably inexperienced with sound synthesis and instrumentation in general. It is so bad that, for the first two years, I created only single-instrument songs and lately I have been gravitating to mixing preexisting material rather that writing my own stuff.
I am a programmer by trade, so I was toying around with programmable synthesis frameworks, such as Pure Data, but it just felt like I was missing the fundamentals and not getting anywhere. Since the last year, I have been training my ear on classical, so that I could at least recognize and properly use orchestra instruments and while this helps some, it does not advance my ability to create electronic music that sounds the way I would like it to. Any resources you would recommend?
